Old Lyme mansion sells for $3 million
OLD LYME, CT – The Old Lyme mansion owned by former Merrill Lynch executive Daniel Gordon sold at auction today for $3 million, with J.P. King Auction Company, Gadsden, Ala., managing the sale.
“We had a great property and a strong field of bidders,” said Craig King, president of J.P. King. “That led to a solid outcome.”
Approximately 75 people attended the auction, held at the gated estate. Bidders came from Connecticut, Florida and New York, each posting a $100,000 cashier’s check to register for the auction.
Purchasing the property was Jon T. Lorensen, of Lighthouse Point, Fla., who owns Honda, Acura and Toyota dealerships in the area.
Bidders began gathering at the estate at 9 a.m., listening to live music and enjoying hors d’ oeuvres and discussing the property and auction procedures with J.P. King bid assistants as the auction hour approached.
The home – a majestic three-story mansion with its own guest house, pool, spa and tennis court surrounded by 21 wooded acres – has views of Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River.
